LIBRARY
AUTOMATED INFORMATION SYSTEM
System "LIBRARY" is designed for computerization and
information support of library activities in offices and organizations.
Functionalities of the system:
Registration of books, magazines and other publications received in the library of the
respective office (organization);
Creation of Information connections between publications and other documents registered in
the system;
Registration of readers in the library;
Registration of borrowings of publications by readers;
Control of the terms for giving back of publications borrowed by readers;
Preparation of current and periodical reports about the publications that have not been given
back;
Referential-information service with data from the publications in the library;
Information support for analysis of the data about the library activities and the reader’s
interest.
Information entities and information scope:
Publications (type of publication, author, title, inventory number, year of
issuance, publisher, city of publisher location, number of copies, date of acquisition, annotation
, content, press-mark number, subject line, connection to entities and events, etc.);
Readers (names, IDN, address, etc.);
Borrowing of publications by readers (data for the publication, data for the reader, date of
borrowing, term for use, date of giving back, etc.).
Activities:
Entry of information about a publication – includes automated thematic
classification and entry of its informational description; addition of the original (in electronic
form), images, tables, schemes, photo, video or audio materials; automated generation of the
inventory numbers of all copies of the publication.
Exclusion of the publication from the system – entry of the purpose for exclusion, date of
exclusion, data for the exclusion protocol.
Entry of information about readers – entered persons is identified in order not to be entered
again
Entry of data for the borrowing of a publication – entry of data for publications and
readers, date of borrowing, term for giving back, etc. Borrowing of more than one publication at
the same time is permitted to each reader.
Entry of data for giving back of a publication by a reader – date of giving back and notes
for the publication and/or the reader, if any.
Update and deletion of the entered data in the system – performed after the respective
information entity has been identified and after the respective update (deletion) has been
explicitly confirmed.
Query activities – queries are performed by arbitrary combinations of:
- characteristics of the publication (fixed indications, key words), full-text
search by definite words or word combinations, etc.;
- data for the readers;
- characteristics for the borrowing of publications and others.
Entry, update and deletion of data in the system is carried out in interactive
mode. Data entry can be made from text files as well. The answers to queries, prepared by the
system, can be viewed on the system screen, printed out or retrieved in a file.
Data protection:
It is provided by regulation of the access to the system activities and stored
data after check of user names and passwords of the persons authorized to work with it.
The system performs self control over its own database, as well as automated
support for the location and elimination of possible breaches.
Platform independence:
System “LIBRARY” has been designed for operation within the environment of the
operating systems Unix, Linux, Windows 2003, XP, 2000, NT, 98, etc. As Database Management System
can be used every relational DBMS relevant to the requirements of the SQL ANSI standard - Oracle,
Informix, SyBase, MS SQL Server, etc.
Major users:
System “LIBRARY” has been implemented in the Academy of the Ministry of
Interior, Research Institute for Forensic Science and Criminology at the Ministry of Interior,
Ministry of Defense, National Art Gallery, etc.
The quality management system ISO 9001:2000 has been implemented in
Index-Bulgaria Ltd. for all its activities. The company is certified by LLOYD'S REGISTER QUALITY
ASSURANCE (LRQA).
